Another aspect ratio question

by Jim Mayor @, South Albany, Vermont, USA, Monday, December 07, 2009, 12:29 (2907 days ago)

I am sure someone has already covered this, but is there a list of the "available" image aspect ratios for each calendar format> I would like to take advantage of as much space as possible and many of my pictures can be cropped accordingly. Trial and error doesn't seem worth it, assuming someone else has done the work. [Read this: "I am lazy."]

Hi Jim,

The initial image aspect ratio is always determined by the image file - it is the size which alters.
Simply Calenders uses the maximum size that can cosmetically fit in the available space without distorting the aspect ratio.

Thanks for the reply, Peter. I do understand that and I have been using SC for several years.

My interest is to take advantage of ALL the space available to me for any calendar format. Let's see if an example will help.

Assume the largest image aspect ratio I can use for a format is 2:1. Now suppose I have a landscape image that is 1:1. If I imported that image into SC it would not fill all of the space available, it would still be 1:1, but it would not be distorted. Assume I can crop it in many ways without destroying the image, but I would like to crop it as little as possible. Obviously I would crop it to an aspect ration of 2:1. Now the image would use all available calendar space AND not be distorted.

What I tried to do last year is take an arbitrary image and crop it to various aspect ratios and import it into calendar, BUT I would have to do that guessing game for each different calendar format.

Does my long-winded reply help any> Sorry to be a pain.

Peace.

Jim

Certainly does explain your query.

However, there is no such list of the "available" image aspect ratios for each calendar format>

As the calendar layout it dynamically created, aspect ratio would vary not only with Template but also Paper Size, Orienation, each Margin Size, each Font Size and a few other variables too.

Quickest way would be to view a calendar without picture and measure the available width and height. Theoretically this would be easy enough to calculate automatically but there is a limit to how much can be packed into an already crowded interface in Simply Calenders.
